Recently bullying has been on the news a lot, however it's not a new issue. There have always been bullies and people who have been bullied. These days, however, bullies are able to harass their victims by using things like computers and mobile phones due to modern technology. We will be going over various ways in which parents can protect their children from bullies in the following article.
Bullying has gone to another level, as "cyber-bullying" is now very popular with children that go online. It is no longer safe to go on your computer because the Internet has made it possible for bullies to be there too. Now, children can be harassed by e-mail, instant message, text messages and on social networks. These types of attacks are very hurtful, so you should pay attention in case they are happening. People that insult you while you are on the Internet can also cause you pain and suffering even though it is not a physical act. You should closely monitor your child's online activities and also limit the amount of time he or she can spend on the internet. Another good idea is to learn how to block other people that may be intruding on their social media site. Reporting such offenses is the first step you should make which includes contacting the school and social media site as well. Kids often have conflicting feelings about reporting bullying incidents to parents, teachers or other adults. Children that report that they have experienced bullying are usually made fun of and picked on for doing so. That's why it's important to instill in your child the idea that they shouldn't hesitate to tell someone if they are bullied. Once children understand that bullies will be afraid of them if they know that they will tell an adult, they will do what is right and tell an adult after such an incident. The easiest way to motivate them is to have them tell someone they trust at their campus. When these incidents occur, kids, if they have an open dialogue with certain adults, will report what happens to them when it transpires.
Although kids usually experience bullying in some type of physical format, intimidation and other factors are also involved. Bullying, in fact, can be more detrimental to a child using verbal abuse such as teasing and making the children feel inadequate or worthless. Verbal abuse comes in many forms including making fun of children because of handicaps that they may have or a physical appearance that does not fall into a "normal" category. Once you are aware that your child is experiencing this type of abuse, talk to someone at the school right away. Coming in many different forms, bullying can affect your child in a variety of ways which is why you need to stay on top of it. Parents must always do the best to watch out for the kids, which includes looking for signs of bullying in their lives. This means keeping a close watch on what your children do when they are surfing on the Internet, or who they are talking to on a regular basis. Just be very watchful and observant, looking for signs such as your child being upset on a regular basis and asking them what is wrong.
