I've been looking to enter the security industry lately and didn't realise there is so much different types of work. Working security in the adult services industry can be very interesting and full of riveting stories that will just make you smile. After receiving my Security accreditation, a friend recommended that I look at working as security or as a bouncer for massage parlours, escorts, escort agencies, strip clubs, gentlemen's clubs and various other establishments such as brothels and in call facilities.
I hadn't realised how big the adult services industry is and so was a bit naive in my first few attempts. My first encounter was with a massage parlour and I was very proactive and called up asking if they needed any extra security and was invited in for an interview. When I arrived, I was dressed up in a suit and they mistook me for a client, I was waiting outside for a while before they approached me and I mentioned I was there for an interview. The manager was very nice and asked me about how I had dealt with conflict resolution in the past, whether I had completed any security work or had worked in the adult industry before. I told him that I treated it like any other security role, and it didn't matter about the industry, it was more about maintaining a subtle but present visibility to not only ensure that the girls felt safe, but that the clients were not too intimidated to enjoy themselves.
It's a fine line but you need to be able to step in where needed and be an intimidating presence so that the problem doesn't escalate, yet at the same time, allowing the offending party room to leave so they don't feel as though they need to save face. All these things are important. The manager was quite impressed with my answer and then had me complete a trial. The first few weeks were interesting, meeting all the girls, and the staff, remaining discreet with the clients, it was honestly like any other role, new people, new procedures to learn etc. After I had spent a few months there, the manager would ask me if I was available for extra shifts as the girls sometimes did outcall. This meant that I had to take them to the booking and stay downstairs as security until everything was fine and I would escort her back. It just made them feel safer knowing that someone was always around to look after them.
I took some time off to go travelling and when I returned, got in touch with my old boss to see if they had anything for me, while he didn't, he told me he would mention me to a few of his friends if they needed any extra muscle and that's how I started working the doors at various strip clubs on a busy Friday and Saturday night. Working the door is very different as its your own judgement call to allow people in or out of an establishment, and so it was very new to me, having to deal with people who were too drunk, who didn't understand the no touching rule, groups of guys that were too aggressive, the other surprising thing was that girls who came with their boyfriends also didn't understand the no touching rule and didn't understand when we had to throw them out. Anyway, there are many opportunities to work in the adult industry as security, you just have to be professional, calm, and a hard worker, after that, your contacts will definitely remember you as the consummate professional and will always be happy to refer you to others or call you up offering the odd shift or two for some extra spending money.
