One is extortion which means some teeth are moved in order to create space and other is expansion where the arch is made larger by using palatal expander. The braces should be adjusted every month.
The advantage of braces is that it gives a proper shape to the teeth. Teeth may look abnormal in the face and braces help it locates to the proper place.
