I'm a packrat. I actually needed to get rid of a lot of things. In lieu of cleaning house and throwing things away, I constructed a storage shed.

After I finished constructing the storage shed, I was thrilled when I checked out all the storage space I had.

Next, I started putting things into my new shed.

While I was organizing and putting things in my new storage shed, I suddenly realized, I was running out of space. I stood there in shock trying to figure out what happened to all the storage area I thought I had.

I realized I had far more stuff than I imagined I had. I should have either constructed a much larger shed or tossed some things away.

We do not realize the amount of stuff we possess until we collect it all up and begin organizing it. For this reason it might pay you to build the next size larger shed.

Here are some useful ideas to make building a shed successful the first time:

Always check to see if you require a building permit. Check for rules on exactly where you can construct a shed. Some locations have restrictions on exactly how close you may build to existing buildings and property lines.

Where are you planning to place your shed?

You need a place that provides handy accessibility for you but will not be in your way.

A gravel foundation is usually fine for some sizes and kinds of storage sheds.

Cement is the best. Even so, when you mix and pour concrete by yourself that is a lot of work. Quite often a licensed contractor may form and pour a concrete shed foundation for not that much money.

You don't want to build wherever rain water stands in the aftermath of a rain. You want to build in a location with good drainage.

You might take the detailed material list to your favorite do it yourself center and they will easily price everything out. You will certainly know precisely how much it will cost you before you start.

Just what is the reason for constructing your shed. What are you likely to be storing in it? Thinking about what you are going to use the shed for may help you select the best type style and size.

If you're planning to be storing tools and equipment in it, you will need a secure lock.

Do not build a storage shed that may be too small after the first year. Or perhaps like I did, too small once you start putting things into it.

Take advantage of the detailed material list when you get the supplies to build the shed. By doing this you will have everything you need once you start building the shed.
