Mauritius Holidays offer a luxurious escape from reality in a tropical island paradise. The island located in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean, off the south eastern coast of the African continent to the east of Madagascar is the home to some of the world’s finest beaches and lagoons. The island is very small stretching just 65km long at its longest point hosting 160km of coastline and is typically regarded as a destination for lounging on a beach and enjoying all inclusive service. However there is plenty to do on the island itself from excursions to swimming with the dolphins, catamaran cruises and deep sea fishing. Mauritius Holidays appeal to all types of tourists from honeymooners to families and golfers with its breathtaking scenery and beaches.

With its micro climate and similar scenery throughout, your choice of destination is usually based on hotel tastes, area preferences and desired levels of activity. The northern coast of the island has some of the best loved sights and has seen the most development take place in recent years. Life in the East Coast goes by a much slower pace and is ideal for total holiday seclusions. Situated between the mountains and the sea, the East Coast has some of the finest hotels and long white sandy beaches. The South Coast is the least developed and most authentic of the regions and further towards the West is an upcoming area with an array of beautiful beaches and top rate hotels and resorts. The West Coast has more of an African feel to it and is the islands driest and sunniest coast and the best coast for fishing.
Most tourists who travel to Mauritius head for the northern tourist zone at Grand Baie. Grand Baie is one of the most built up and tourist centred locations on the island and is highly recommended as a starting point for a tour where visitors can then move on to other less known areas. Grand Baie is a beach resort area with a large choice of hotels, bars, restaurants and night clubs. The bay area is not only is it famous for its water sports including sailing and wind it offers many other adventure sports and is the departure point for helicopter tours and deep sea fishing expeditions. Top tourist attractions in Grand Baie include the Black River Gorges National Park which has native forests along with some of the rarest plants and beautiful birds. The recently renovated La Cuvette beach is well worth a visit and Pereybere cove located between the Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux comes is regarded as one of the best bathing areas in the world which is always found to be deep blue in colour and crystal clear.
If you plan on venturing into the heart of Grand Baie during the day, the boutique Paradise Cove Spa hotel and five star Legends hotel both offer the perfect opportunity to combine adventure with relaxation and luxurious accommodation. Located just 5km from Grand Baie, the Paradise Cove hotel and Spa is situated at Anse La Raie on the extreme north of the island. The hotel is an ideal location to enjoy a romantic escape with its secluded private beach and award winning tropical garden. The Legends hotel is located near the near the fishermen village of Grand Gaube and is just a short 10 mins drive from Grand Baie. The hotel is the only Feng Shui hotel in the Indian Ocean region and brings together ancient philosophy with contemporary design and rejuvenation. The hotel has lots of fine restaurants with various cuisines on offer, there is a walk in wine cellar, spa treatments, fitness classes, a cinema and evening cabaret entertainment is also provided.
With its micro climate the weather in Mauritius is great all year round holiday destination with the temperature varying on the coastal areas between 22°C in winter and 34°C in summer. Despite talk to suggest that the east of the island may suffer from trade winds between the months of April and October, the best deals can generally be found in the winter months of May through to September.

The island is a safe destination to travel, providing health precautions are noted and the Mauritian people are generally regarded as exceptionally friendly with the island bringing together a vibrant mix of Indian, French, Creole and Chinese cultural influences. The north of the island offers a variety of restaurants, bars, shopping and a wide range of leisure activities and should definitely be considered as a starting point for exploration for on any holiday to Mauritius.
