Care tips for your red eye frog

Like all the other creatures, red eye frogs are fascinating too and they can be your excellent pet if you care for them properly. Although there are no rules for proper care but there are few processes that you can do at your home to care for your red eyed tree frog. It is important to care for them because red eye frog that gets ill, it is really hard to bring them back to normal and therefore, prevention in such cases is the best cure. You can do the following things, to make sure you are taking care of your red eye frog properly.

1. Housing- Very first thing you need to be sure of that is the cage should be taller than wider. In fact, the taller the cage will be it will be better for the frog. It is important to do so because it is arboreal and prefers height to width. Before you buy a cage make sure it is made of plexi enclosures or glass so that it allows for the preservation of the high humidity levels that are compulsory if you want your frog to live and survive. And also, a part of the cage should be at least half screen to allow adequate ventilation. This prevents molding and stagnation in the enclosure.

2. Substrate- The tank of the frog need to be substrate, it is very important because that is the base on which an organism lives. Substrate can be anything like moist paper or a complex perception like a grown cover mixture. You need to keep a mixture of 1 inch gravel at the bottom (drainage) followed by 2-3 inches of orchid bark or organic soil and topped off with a 1 inch layer of sphagnum moss is ideal for the cage. Along with that installing an underground canister filter will help to maintain the pool.

3. Vegetation- Since, red eyed frogs are arboreal they would require trees for their survival. You can either choose plastic plants to keep in the tank or else you can also choose the real ones. If you choose to add the real ones, you need to make sure that they are clean and there are no substances like pesticides need to be washed away from their surface. It’s important because the toxins present can be harmful for the frog. Make sure your always choose plants with wide leaves so that it can support the weight of the frog. You can choose from - Palm, aluminum plant, moss, philodendron, snake plants, Japanese evergreen, etc.

4. Feeding- You need to feed the frog 4-5 live crickets every 2 days. Because the cricket has no meat in it you need to coat the crickets with vitamin D3 powder or feed them with a gut-loader supplement. So also meal worms and wax worms can be fed sparingly because they are fibrous.

5. Grooming and Hygiene- Grooming and maintaining the hygiene is the most important part of your red frog care. As far as possible you should avoid touching the frogs. The reason being, these frogs have really sensitive skin and they can easily catch diseases by absorbing the toxins on your hands. Also make sure you wash your hands with a bacterial hand wash.
