The highly debated issue in regards to the possible existence of proof in support of the Biblical Exodus was covered in great detail within this class.  When I went through theological training thirty yrs. ago, I had been taught that there was positively no empirical proof outside of the Bible that supports the Exodus.  That was the accepted view among scholars from the time, and I have felt convinced to agree with the author that there is certainly indeed substantial empirical proof supporting aspects from the Biblical story.  He did not provide absolute proof, but there is certainly an overwhelming amount of proof that one thing approximating the Biblical story took place nearly 3500 years ago.

Though I was told that the initial eleven chapters of Genesis were basically tribal myth and should not be taken literally, from Abraham on, there had been extra support for the Biblical accounts along with archeological finds, has lent support to the facts very well.  The numbers might have been exaggerated, but there has been support for the existence of the folks and the locations talked about in the text.

Because the Exodus is referenced from the part of the Bible talking about the history along with was believed by the Hebrew individuals as factual, it has been at all times been accepted that the simple facts in the story were.  That doesn't mean that I believed every one of the events as literally genuine, as they had been remembrances of men and women carried through the centuries, telling of a heroic history.  We in the modern times frequently exaggerate the exploits of our ancestors, so I had expected no less of the Children of Israel, nevertheless from the basic facts, I always had thought there has got to be a general fact, which would include their arrival in Egypt centuries prior to the Exodus, along with the leadership of the individual by the name of Moses to lead a group of Semitic folks out of that land.  It did not have to appear the Hollywood version in the story to seem generally true genuine.  There might have been a fairly small number of Jews departing Egypt and settling contained in Palestine with the story to have gotten heart-felt in my mind.  Dr. Federspiel has convinced me that my assumption was indeed right along with something did indeed happened.  Furthermore, although it appears that a huge amounts of Egyptian history was destroyed because of internal squabbling, fighting, wars, as well as natural disasters, enough circumstantial empirical proof exists to support the presence of quite a large number of Semites in Egypt who came to be in Jerusalem.

I became fascinated to learn that a staff was discovered in Jordan of Tuthmoses IV –Moses II, with writing of Egyptian hieroglyphic symbols and Graham Phillips presumed it belonged to Moses.   Though it is not irrefutable proof, it really is a fascinating theory which I feel needs additional review.  Certainly, it proves that Egyptian as well as Semitic men and women had contact with each other inside the region of current day Israel .

One matter that seems sure is that Moses had been a living individual.  He was referenced by both the name ‘Manetho’ as well as the name ‘Artapanus’.  Manetho had said that the Egyptians were "troubled by calamities, in order that the divine wrath might be averted, expelled the foreigners…their leader stated to have been Moses."  If a pagan Egyptian priest living three hundred years before the Common Era had a record of a particular person named Moses who was expelled from Egypt to appease the gods, Moses probably existed.   Moses is a common Egyptian name, not a Hebrew one.  It's doubtful that the Hebrew authors of the events would have made up the name from thin air.  Just the fact that they have been able to come up with an Egyptian name for their hero implies some understanding of Egypt.  To make an Egyptian pagan priest confirm the basic facts of that story was more than an ‘interesting’ happenstance.  It implies that the simple events of the story actually happened along with acquired a noticeable impact on Egypt.

Bear in mind that Manetho was telling the story of an event that took place more than 1000 yrs. before his birth.  We don't recall unimportant things that occurred long ago.  Something incredible must’ve occurred.  As a by-the-by, with the proof of an Egyptian priest, I’m convinced the Exodus was more significant an event than I’d originally thought.  My expectations for that Exodus were previously small.  I assumed that a relatively few number of people left Egypt and settled in Palestine.  I really downplayed it in my mind, the onset of the plagues, having been the receiver of a liberal theological education.  After studying the evidence presented by Dr. Federspiel, I’ve been nudged into accepting the chance that even the plagues (as reported and proclaimed miracles may possibly have be valid.   If the plagues ended up being written down as well as remembered for over 1000 yrs. in Egypt, they had to have occurred, and Moses must be given credit for those things.

Additionally, it appears very likely that the military defeat in the "Red Sea" may have happened too, as that could be a plausible reason the people remembered Moses.

It's a tragedy that a fire destroyed the Alexandria Library and that the anti-pagan movement during the Christian timeframe lead to the destruction of so much material contained in Egypt.   It is also a tragic thing that early European Archeologists who were collecting samples from ancient Egypt had been so sloppy that they destroyed priceless papyri codices as well as fragments.  Because so much material has been permanently lost, we’ll never have the complete picture of Moses and the Exodus. On the other hand, to say there exists no proof that has survived to present day seems to be far from being true.  We have a great deal of circumstantial empirical proof preserved by Josephus and Eusebius.  Also, there exists possible archeological evidence being dug up to this day, though our comprehension of the hieroglyphs will make it unbelievably difficult to decipher.  Together with time as well as further practice on deciphering of Egyptian Hieroglyphs, it seems certain that the existence of Moses is going to be proven without question.
